There’s a Plastic Storage Bin for Everything!
The uses for a plastic storage bin must number in the millions. Serious organization is in order once you begin to see all of the options available with the utility of plastic material. Storage bins can be made large or small, ultra-light or thick and ultra-secure. Best of all, they improve your work area no matter if that’s the garage, shop, kitchen or warehouse. Let’s take a look at some of these uses.
In the Garage
Tom is an auto mechanic. He knows the quality of his work flows all the way to the organization of his tools and equipment. Like most mechanics he stores his tools in a wheeled, three-tier cabinet. Tom also uses a large plastic storage bin for used motor oil. This type of bin is in the form of a 55-gallon drum and using this container keeps his garage clean, and best of all when the drum is full it can be removed safely for proper disposal. There is a company which Tom pays monthly to provide this service at a low rate, and they provide him with an empty new container to replace the full one. But this is a method you can use in your own garage at home. Perhaps you don’t do your own oil changes – and that’s ok – you can still use a plastic storage bin to sort recyclable material like aluminum cans, bottles and newspapers. If you are handy in the garage, use a bin to store rags, or as a place to keep larger less-utilized tools out of the way but easy to get to.
In the Kitchen
Not all of these containers have to be plain, unattractive plastic. You can find a decorative plastic storage bin for softer areas of the home such as the kitchen. In Cassie’s kitchen, she’s got containers on her countertops for flour and sugar. There’s a matching utensil bin in the drawer for spoons, knives, and forks; yet another plastic storage bin to hold dishes while they dry after being washed. She was having an issue with her kids’ cereal boxes fitting neatly in the cupboard. So she found a plastic storage bin to take care of that as well. This neat unit features four large containers with sealing, airtight lids that you put the cereal into. At the bottom there is a handle to turn, which acts as a hopper and portions the cereal into a bowl. The whole unit rotates around so you can choose the cereal you want. The extra room Cassie saved in the cupboard, she used to store holiday decorations for the kitchen which she uses throughout the year.
In the Shop or Warehouse
The stock room at Ed’s Assembly Company was a disaster. His employees were constantly asking him to order the same boxes of hardware over and over. It just didn’t make sense, there was enough hardware on the purchase orders to assemble 100 units, when they had only enough for 50. Ed installed a multi-colored plastic storage bin system to help organize his company’s hardware inventory. Being able to choose multiple sizes was a good benefit, because some of the bolts were large and required a larger bin. Some parts were tiny, and only needed a bin about 3” square. His employees were able to save thousands of dollars on lost parts and worked much more efficiently with better organization.
